New extension portfolio
The original blue- grey rustic stone wall was the inspiration for the colour palette of the kitchen. This exposed stone wall oozes charm and character and by incorporating this wall as my focal point, it would also reflect upon the heritage of this 200 year old Welsh farmhouse.
Natural day light enhances the beauty of the grain of the stone wall. This was originally a south west facing wall prior to the new kitchen extension.
In 2002 we completed a double storey extension to include an open plan kitchen, dining, reading nook and garden room, with patio doors open to the garden.
This current trend for an open plan cooking and dining area has grown in popularity over the years and is well suited for busy, modern lives.
Zoning the room is important so that all the spaces are distinct and functional.
Lighting , flooring and furniture have all been chosen carefully to create an inviting, and relaxing spaces.
The kitchen incorporates a Bianco drift quartz worktop, grey tiles and two shades of blue for the bespoke kitchen cabinets, finally the wild meadow blind softens the overall design.
All kitchen appliances, handles and wall switches are stainless steel/brushed steel to finish a cohesive, contemporary kitchen.
The shape and double height of the kitchen granite island was crucial for the room to come together and be a statement piece.
Curves were included in my design especially the highest tier for the foot stools. This breaks down the square angular shape of the kitchen.
Lighting is key in the kitchen and the two smokey glass pendant lights are an attractive feature to emphasise the blue in the granite worktop which echoes the grey blue stone wall.
Creating interest and balance is key to design any room.
The kitchen has to be functional and attractive since it has a high traffic flow and everyone enjoys congregating around the kitchen island whilst I cook.
All types of kitchen are referred to as the heart of the home, but this is truly my dream kitchen.
Cooking and entertaining is not a chore anymore because of the choice of materials and colours used in the kitchen which makes it an inviting and attractive space to be.
